The Fender Bassman 300 is the Sunn 300T. It blows the doors off an Ampeg SVT. The split compression feature is unspeakably cool. Imagine an SVT with a truly useable preamp.
I`ve had my 300T for about three years and play it out a lot. It cooks. If you get one, be prepared to lift the eighty-pound head and move it about. Also, the first power tube change should be Svets (the built-in biasing feature makes the change painless). The crappy OEM Chinese Gtoove Tubes kinda suck. I am told current models come OEM with Svets. Good.
The output transformer actually has a 2-ohm(!) position, so, with just a few brains, you can use this head to drive a lot of cabinets. The split compressor is just too cool.
If one really wants a tube head, this is the one. Just set the tone controls to flat, put on new strings, and make darn sure you`re in tune. Everybody will hear you. Fender Bassman 300
