The Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass exceeded my expectations for a moderately priced bass. Its fit and finish are equal to Fenders made in the USA. You can comb your hair in the highly polished glossy lacquer finish. The neck binding is tight and smooth as are the square neck inlays. In either passive or active modes, a remarkable variety of tonal possibilities can be achieved. Playability is on par with most of your top of the line basses. I purchased my bass when looking for a versatile instrument to mess around with at home. What I received is an instrument that works for warm soft subtle jazz, deep melodic blues, and pounding hard rock. This instrument has proven to be great in the studio and live. Let`s face it, it`s fun to play. Unfortunately friends who are professional musicians keep borrowing it and it`s affordable enough that they should buy their own.
If you want to spend the money, there are basses that play a little easier, and some like Rickenbacker which have a distinctive sound. But if you don`t want to spend a small fortune and get good quality with versatility, this might be the bass for you. Try it out.
