VMI Model 3171 Euphonium. While slide trombone is my principal instrument, I have alot of experience playing valve trombone and tuba (high school and college). My community band recently needed a euphonium player so I switched over, initially borrowing a school Yamaha YEL-201. Based on reviews I bought a VMI 3171. I can`t believe what a nice horn it is for the price! I got the slver plate version and besides being a slick-looking horn, the valve action is great. The sound is beautiful (it`s a better horn than I am euphonium player right now). The intonation throughout the range (which is pretty extensive) is solid, and it is light (notably less than the 3-valve Yamaha 201). Using a large shank Bach 6.5AL I can get up to a high B-flat with little effort and it goes significantly below the staff just as easily. If you can get the money for one, buy it! Well worth the price! VMI Model 3171 Euphonium
