Warwick Corvette Standard 5-String Bass Guitar. Warwick is famous for bass guitars with exotic woods, out of the ordinary body shapes, numerous pickup configurations, and all in all great tone. However, out of all of the basses they offer, in the entire price ranges they have, the Corvette Standards are the best bang for the buck. 4, 5, or 6-string, the body isn`t too big (for people like me that prefer a smaller body on the bass), but it is substantial enough to adequately resonate the vibration of the strings through the body and neck. Bubinga is a heavy wood, so if you have back problems, please consult your physician before buying this bass. :) The Corvette`s are well balanced if you wear your bass high, low, or in between. The bubinga body resonates lows as well as mahogany, but also has high-mid punch like alder or poplar. The wood has great tone! The ovangkol neck is fat, lending to the full tone of this instrument. It isn`t too big though. Just like you would with any guitar, play it BEFORE you buy it to see if the neck is comfortable to your tastes. The action is set low -- VERY FAST. The 4 and 5-string versions have a standard J-J pickup configuration, which is time tested. The active EQ on the 5-string gives a diverse variety of tones to choose from. I like this configuration better than the offset J-J configuration of the Thumb Bolt On because the neck pickup is actually close to the neck. It is easy to dial in some fatter, old-school sounds that the Thumb simply can`t do. Don`t get me wrong, the Thumb is a great bass!
